| Three New Projects commenced in the scope of the BTC Environmental Investment Program |

The implementation of the three
projects have started with contracts signed between the undertaking
partners and the BTC Company, as part of the second phase of the
“Environmental Investment Program” (EIP) which was started by the Baku
- Tbilisi - Ceyhan Company (BTC Co.) in 2003.
For the second phase of the BTC/ Environmental Investment Programme, organisations were invited to submit proposals for the projects;
1. Developing Yumurtalık Lagoons Wetland Management Plan and Identifying Erzurum Marshes Conservation Zones This project will be implemented by a partnership comprising Tour du Valat Biology Station (TdV) and Environment and Consumer Protection Society (ÇETKO) under the leadership of the Bird Research Society (KAD). Total amount of grant to be provided to the project which will be completed in 2007 is $350,000. 2. Awareness Raising Materials on Biodiversity and Natural Resources Along the BTC Pipeline- This Project will be implemented by the National Society for the Conservation and Documentation (DoğaBel). DoğaBel will cooperate with the Çukurova University Agriculture Faculty Landscape Architecture Department. The total amount of grant to be provided to the project will cover Yumurtalık Nature Protection Area and Hafik and Tödürge Lakes in Sivas is $150,000. This project will be completed by the end of 2006. 3. Ecological Planning and Management of Ardahan-Yalnızçam Forests with Stakeholders’ Participation This Project will be implemented by the Central Union of Turkish Forestry Cooperatives (ORKOOP) together with Ortadoğu Forestry Projects Survey and Consultancy A.Ş. (ODOPEM) and in collaboration with Black Sea Technical University (KTU). This Project will cover the Yalnızçam Forests, located along the Yalnızçam and Uğurlu Districts of Ardahan Province and will be completed by mid- 2008.The total contribution will be provided to this project by BTC Co. is $1,200,000. |
