IRC

irclogoThe Development Resource Center (DRC) in Yevlakh was established by IRC under the CIP. 27 representatives of communities mobilized by the CIP in the Yevlakh area joined together and created a limited liability company. The DRC was supplied with computers and its management board received business development training. The goal of establishing the DRC was to create a sustainable entity that could serve the needs of the communities in the Yevlakh area on a fee for service basis.

The DRC currently offers English language and computer use courses for children from the represented villages as well as for children in Yevlakh. The city of Yevlakh has agreed to donate several rooms in an administrative building. The DRC has been able to install a telephone line and has included access to the internet as part of its computer training curriculum.

With help from IRC and CIP management, the DRC developed a grant proposal for agricultural machinery. Namely, the purchase of a tractor and different attachments. Using information from its represented communities and the network of farmers under the agriculture extension program, the members felt strongly that there would be considerable demand for the use of the equipment.

The goal of the project is for the DRC to lease the tractor and attachments to farmers in the Yevlakh area – improving the ability of farmers to work their fields in a timely and more profitable manner. The proceeds from leasing the equipment will be used to develop other income streams such as a small bakery supplied by area wheat farmers.
