hayatThe Environmental Awareness and Improvement Programme (EAIP) is designed to engage youth and the population of 106 BTC/SCP pipeline affected communities (PAC) in a programme to raise awareness about their natural environment and to provide these communities the opportunity to develop and implement community based interventions that will improve the environment and quality of life in those communities.
The EAIP is being implemented by the National NGO “HAYAT” in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Economic Development as well as local youth NGOs. The amount of BTC/SCP grant is US $ 636, 709, and US $ 75,000 will be raised by communities, which may be in the form of labour, material, cash and other inputs.

The EAIP consists of two main components: environmental awareness programs and community-based, environmentally focused micro-projects. Environmental awareness programs will be delivered to both school students and to community members in each community along the entire pipeline route. School students will participate in a seedling growing and tree planting exercise that will embed the awareness component with a hands-on exercise. This exercise and the associated ongoing monitoring of trees will keep students engaged and environmentally active even after the program is completed.

In the second component, Medium Sized Projects (MSP) will be used to mobilize a portion of the communities. The PACs will submit proposals on environmental themes that meet a stated need or mitigate a particular environmental and community specific issue. Reviewed proposals that best meet established criteria will receive funding for implementation.. Communities that receive funding will themselves develop and implement their proposed interventions. A total of 30 projects valued in range from US $ 7500 to US $ 12,500 will be implemented. The projects will result in sustainable, community supported environmentally friendly interventions that enhance the natural environment and improve quality of life.
