imclogoThe HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (HAPP) implemented by International Medical Corps (IMC) is aimed at responding to the growing need for training and educational activities to prevent the spread and to minimize the risk of infection of sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) and HIV/AIDS amongst both the community populations in close proximity to temporary work camps and the AGT Pipelines Project route and both Company and Contractor personnel.

The Project includes the following main objectives:
  1. To increase awareness and knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STI’s prevention among Company personnel and the Contractors working along the AGT Pipelines Project route.
  2. To increase awareness and knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STI’s prevention among the populations of communities in close proximity to work camps.
  3. To improve the ability of the health care network to prevent HIV/AIDS and STI’s through professional training of local health care providers.
  4. To improve the ability of work camp medical personnel to prevent HIV/AIDS and STI’s through professional training.

The Project shall target 20 (twenty) communities located in close proximity to the AGT Pipelines Project temporary work camps in Kurdamir, Yevlakh, Tovuz, Mingechavir and Ganja. The program will benefit about 2,300 Company and Contractor’s personnel, 5,000 community members, and 60 health care providers. Special interactive self-learning CD-ROM on HIV/AIDS and STIs will be produced in Azeri, English and Russian for program beneficiaries. The duration of the programme is 18 months.

IMC is working with national NGO partner HAYAT for implementation of community training, with Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Internal Affaires of Azerbaijan Republic.
